Virasat

Indian Cuisine
Although I have had Indian food a few times over the years, I wouldn’t say I’m well acquainted with it. I do like curry, bold flavors, and spice, so you’d think I’d be a big fan of Indian cuisine, but I haven’t found the right dish that really spins my prop.
Vancouver has had several new Indian restaurants open over the past few years that I’ve been meaning to try. One of those is Virasat, near Costco off 192nd. Last night, we dined there and had a good experience. I had eaten there many times when it was Brother’s Burgers back in the day—same room, but with a very different vibe.
We went with the recommendations our waitress kindly gave. First up was an appetizer called Samosa Chat (crispy samosas topped with chickpeas, chutneys, and spices). It was like an Indian Frito pie, but not as good. We weren’t fond of it. Our entrées were Butter Chicken, Heritage Saagwala, chili paneer, Shahi lamb biryani, and Chennai masala. We ordered Lehsuni Naan for the table. We enjoyed all the entrées, but my favorites were the Chennai masala and the chili paneer. We topped off our meal with a dessert, Gulab Jamun. The flavor reminded me of a pancake drenched in maple syrup—it was delicious.
The portions were ample, so we brought home about half of what was served. The cost was $112 before tax, licensing, and destination charges. My family was pleased, and we will return.
