Best Salads in VanPort
Almost every restaurant offers a salad. But for some places that’s a consolation prize to appease a patron who doesn’t eat meat. The eateries on our list have fab salads that can be the star attraction.
1. Amaro’s Table Downtown
Vancouver – Downtown
One of my go-to salads at Amaro’s Table is the wedge with fried chicken added. It comes topped with crispy fried onions and bacon bits, which add both flavor and enjoyable texture. The food, cocktails, and service are excellent. Like an iceberg, there are a lot more bottles to choose from in the basement than what you see on the shelves upstairs. Amaro’s has some of the best mixologists on the Vancouver side of the river, and you can ask them to create a bespoke drink based on your tastes. The staff is superb, and their happy hour is fantastic—the only downside is that it ends at 5 p.m. Parking is street-only, but I can usually find a decent spot.
2. El Gaucho Portland
Portland – Downtown
Festive steakhouse in the historic Benson Hotel—but with sky-high prices. For the most part, there are better choices, but their salads are excellent. The tableside Caesar salad might just redefine your opinion of a Caesar. The lovely live Spanish guitar music is a major plus. Be very careful what you order at the bar—my Manhattan was $32. If you ask for any substitutions, your drinks can end up costing as much as your meal.
3. Crave Grille
Vancouver – East
Crave rocks! One of the best Vancouver eateries with fantastic food and great service. People often focus on their burgers but Crave has one of the best selection of sandwiches and salads in town. Crave House Salad, Bacon & Bleu, BBQ Chopped Salad or a Caesar with a choice of Grilled Chicken or Mushroom. I like the Bacon & Bleu with chicken added.
4. Twigs Bistro
Vancouver – Waterfront
Twigs has a nice range of delicious offerings. There’s something for everyone, including six great salads: toasted pecan caesar, orange chicken, blueberry wild flower, southern fried chicken, pear & roasted beet and grilled steak salad. Twigs has a cool vibe and a spacious outside patio. PRO TIP: The Crème brûlée is superb.
5. Hudson’s Bar and Grill
Vancouver – Central
Good hotel restaurant/bar that has a rustic, lodge vibe with a tall ceiling, huge wooden beams and native American accents. On their menu they have three salads: Classic Caesar, Wedge and the Jicama Strawberry Salad. Chicken can be added. It’s not on the menu anymore but one of the best Cobb salads I’ve had is at Hudson’s. Perhaps if you ask real nice… They have a free parking lot with plenty of spaces.
6. El Gaucho Vancouver
Vancouver – WaterfrontEl Goucho is well known in Portland. Vancouver is a new edition. They charge top dollar. The table side Caesar salad is exceptional and actually worth the money. The live music is a nice touch.
7. The Hammond
Vancouver – East
The Hammond has a comfortable vibe with a rustic decor. They have five salads on the menu: House, Heirloom Tomatoes, Wood Grilled Caesar and Pacific Cobb. Add-on options are King Salmon, Sirloin Steak or an Ancho Rubbed Chicken Breast. Plenty of free parking in their lot.
8. Grains of Wrath (GOW)
Vancouver- Camas
Grains of Wrath greatest passion is beer but they’re all about salads too. They have seven to choose from: House, Beet, Cauliflower, Taco, Blue Cheese, GoW Caesar and Mediterranean Salad. But just to make it more difficult to decide, you can add Bacon, Ham, Grilled Chicken, Veggie Patty , Ahi Tuna or Steak. Street parking is luck of the draw.
9. Leonardo’s
Vancouver – East
The first thing people think of when you say Leaonardo’s is pizza because they’re one of the best around but they also have a salad bar.
10. MOD
Both – Multiple
Another pizza centric restaurant that has a salad bar. Like their pizza, you tell them what you want as it goes down the line.
