Best Mexican truck/cart in Van/Port
Some truck/carts are serving amazing Mexican food. A few have tacos and burritos rivaling and sometimes surpassing sit down restaurants. These are the ones you want.
1. Buen Apetito
Vancouver – North
Buen Apetito is a really good Mexican cart with good prices. I tried three different tacos. Asada, carnitas and pastor. They were decent size and $2.75 each. I tried a bit of each one. I like the flavor of the asada and pastor better than the carnitas, but the texture of all three were very good. Once I added the red sauce, they all tasted fab. I chose to buy a Dr. Pepper at the Chevron station that the cart is in. There’s also a coffee joint with a drive thru. Buen Apetito is a solid choice.
2. El Viejón Taquería y Mariscos
Vancouver – Central
El Viejon is a quality Mexican food truck. Their ingredients are top-notch. They have a broader range of tacos than any truck that I’ve seen. They specialize in fish tacos. But they have plenty of beef, pork and chicken as well. I tried three tacos: carne asada, al pastor and quesabirria which was my favorite of the three. They have three salsa choices: Verde, rojo and habanero. I went with habanero the first time. It’s rather creamy and not super spicy. I like the roja better. The truck is next door to Vice Beer and have a relationship with them. You can sit inside their brewery there’s also an outside patio. It’s good food but it’s rather expensive. The carna asada and al pastor for $4 each. The quesabirria is $5. My three tacos were $14.30. To be fair, each taco was a good size. On my second visit I tried their burrito. I like the tacos better. The truck is in a very packed industrial park. Parking can be a challenge.
3. Don Angel Taqueria
Vancouver – East
Excellent Mexican truck. I’ve tried four types of tacos: carne asada, carnitas, pastor, and birria. I like the carne asada and carnitas the best. The pastor burrito was good but I wish I would have chose asada. But the shining star are their breakfast burritos. I had a machaca with no potatoes. It’s the best I’ve had in the PNW. I’ve also tried the bacon breakfast burrito. I like the machaca much better. All in all an excellent truck to have in the neighborhood. It’s right next to a Dutch Bros. Decent amount of parking. PRO TIP: If you like spicy they have a red and creamy habanero sauces. Both are good but I think the red is a little more to my taste. I ordered a Mexican Coke in a bottle. I won’t do that again since it’s $4. My total bill came to $15 and some change.
4. La Catrina Food Truck
Portland – South
10am – 10pm M-S. Closed Sunday. Excellent Mexican food truck. I had a steak fajita burrito that was fab. My daughter liked the chicken burrito. They serve breakfast burritos all day. But unfortunately they don’t open until 10am. PRO TIP: If you like spicy ask for the habanero sauce.
5. El Jefe Birria & Tacos
Vancouver – Central
7am-10pm M-F. 8am-10pm Sat-Sun. El Viejon is a quality Mexican food truck. Their ingredients are top-notch. They have a broader range of tacos than most trucks. They specialize in fish tacos. 6. Taco Tom’s Lonchera
Vancouver – North
Excellent priced taco truck. I like the fajita burrito. They give you a pager to let you know your order is ready. Parking is on a gravel lot.
7. Taqueria Sr. Lopez
Vancouver – Central
Excellent Mexican food truck. I had a steak fajita burrito that was fab. My daughter liked the chicken burrito. They serve breakfast burritos all day. But unfortunately they don’t open until 10am. PRO TIP: If you like spicy ask for the habanero sauce.

9. La Osita PDX
Portland – East
The La Osita food cart is serving top shelf, elevated Mexican burritos and tacos. I ordered the carne asada burrito. It was very flavorful with quality ingredients. It’s tucked away on a lot and it not easily seen, but it’s worth the effort to find this one.
10. El Grullense
Vancouver – North
El Grullense is the best kept secret food truck in Vancouver. It’s not fancy. It’s behind a gas station with almost no seating but they make amazing tacos for only $2. I like the Asada the best but the carnitas and pastor are good too. Outrageously great burritos as well. Excellent spicy hot sauce. Cash only.
