Best Fish and Chips in VanPort
A lot of places serve fish & chips. Most are small, puny pieces of Cod or Halibut. Even in the UK the quality varies greatly. Kind of like burgers in the USA. They’re not created equal. So where can you find the big, delicious fish around here? We’ve got you covered. Our Best Fish & Chips in VanPort list features the best spots.
1. The Highland Stillhouse
Portland – Oregon City
Great Scottish pub. The food is pretty good. Portions are generous. The ale is very good. Excellent selection of whisky. Cocktails are very basic. Staff is friendly. The best part is the décor. One of the most authentic UK pub interiors in the USA. They have a small parking lot that fills up quickly.
2. Feast 316
Vancouver – Camas
Feast is known for steaks so having them in a fish & chips list will raise more than a few eyebrows. The vibe is dark wood and rustic decor, but most importantly they serve the best fish & chips I’ve had on the Vancouver side of the river. It dwarfs the puny fish served at most places. The catch is that they only serve it for lunch. INSIDER TIP: It’s not on their website or even their menu, but they do serve beer.
3. Grady’s Public House
Vancouver – Central
I’ve spent a lot of time in the UK, so I am spoiled when it comes to pub food. A lot of places use halibut for fish and chips which are puny in size. Grady’s uses line-caught cod that’s prepared with their in-house beer batter. The fish was decent-sized fish and it tasted pretty good. The beer batter was enjoyable. It’s actually one of the better fish and chips I’ve had in a little while. They have other things on the menu that would probably be worth exploring, but if you’re looking for fish and chips, this is a good choice.

4. Horse Brass Pub
Portland – Central
Dependable legit British pub grub. The vibe is perfect. Other than the accents, this could be a pub in England or Ireland. There are several dart stations throughout the pub. Huge beer selection. The best thing that I’ve eaten there are the fish and chips. They are halibut, therefore on the smaller side. But you can order a three-piece which is adequate. The coleslaw they serve with it is flavorless. It’s neither sweet nor vinegar. The fries are decent.
5. Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub
Portland – Downtown
Long time Portland Irish pub with a significant whiskey selection but they serve tasty fish & chips. Gets loud and rowdy at night though. Best to go for lunch. Parking can be challenging. I prefer Horse Brass or the Highland Stillhouse.
6. T.C. O’Leary’s
Portland – North
Lovely Irish pub with decent food, beer and wonderful music. They serve decent fish & chips but the music is the shining star here.
7. The Moon and Sixpence
Portland – Central
A solid neighborhood pub with good food, drink and vibe. Their fish & chips have a nice batter but they vary a lot in size.
8. Shanahan’s
Vancouver – Downtown
Kind of an Irish pub/roadhouse. They have one of the better valued happy hours in Vancouver. It’s not fine dining but the large variety of items available on the happy hour menu is the best I’ve seen (3-7pm). The cod tacos are good. Ample parking. The Infirmary, next door has far better spirits.
9. What a Catch
Vancouver – waterfront
WildFin on the Vancouver waterfront has a walk-up window where you can buy fish & chips. The size of the fish varies quite a bit and the window is only open during fair weather months.
