Best Coffee Shops in VanPort
Just about every restaurant serves a cup of Joe. But truly great coffee is an art. Our Coffee Evangelist, Andy Ziesemer has spent years searching out the best java artists. Here’s his list of top java shops in VanPort.
1. Push X Pull
Portland – Central
Unapologetically, Push X Pull has got to be one of my top shops in Portland. Their roasting has been off the charts since they opened, and their friendly cafe on Stark Street has maintained a cheery, well lit atmosphere, with great coffee art and some of my favorite Cold Brew in the region. They have all the markings of what I consider a great coffee shop, and their color choices and cheery design make every visit a joy. Parking is always possible on their block, their merch is actually something you’d want to wear, and their roasting profiles are consistent and intentional. Insider Tip: They often ship their new coffees to subscribers before the bags hit the shelf. I doubt you’ll regret having this show up in your mailbox each week.
2. Good Coffee
Portland – Multiple
I’ve watched Good Coffee grow over these last years, and have been shocked at their ability to continue roasting top-shelf beans while spreading throughout the Portland area. Their roasting is light (which I personally prefer), and their latte art game remains strong despite their quick growth throughout town. In my experience, latte art is one of the first things to go as a company spreads their footprint out across town, but I’ve never been disappointed by their quality control or excellent drinks! My personal favorite remains their shop on SE Division. Maybe it’s just nostalgic to me, but I love the row of modern benches right up against the window. The lighting is great, and the coffee is even better. Despite their name, this is some excellent coffee. Worth the hassle to find parking, no matter which cafe you’re going to.
3. Good Coffee – PDX
Portland – PDX Terminal B
I’ve watched Good Coffee grow over these last years, and have been shocked at their ability to continue roasting top-shelf beans while spreading throughout the Portland area. Their roasting is light (which I personally prefer), and their latte art game remains strong despite their quick growth throughout town. Despite their name, this is some excellent coffee.
4. Hidden River
Vancouver – Camas It’s widely known that on the east end of Vancouver, good coffee is hard to find. There have been some new cafe’s popping up in recent years, but few that are roasting their own beans. Hidden River has been a staple in downtown Camas for a while now, having transformed the old fish-market next to Lutz hardware into a cozy cafe. It provides decent seating inside and out, they make all their own pastries in the “roast shack” alongside the cafe, and they frequently host evening events. They are branded “Hidden River After Dark”, and serve delicious cocktails and treats. These guys have a wide variety of beans that they roast in house, and their dirty-chai is arguably one of my favorites on this side of the river. They recently started using the “Joe” app, so you can accrue points and discounts quickly, and pre-order on your way to the shop. Insider Tip: Their sausage/egg sandwich with chipotle mayo is outrageously good.
5. Cariño Coffeehouse
Vancouver – Downtown
A Mexican-style focus, already known for their “Cafe de Olla, and their Mexican pastries.
6. Krays Coffee
Vancouver – Central
They use Kafiex beans, but they have become a staple in the Vancouver scene. Owned by a Slavic family, and a really friendly environment.
